Dr Manu Bora, an orthopaedic surgeon, has been using new techniques to treat sports related injuries for quite some time now. He is introducing a new technique in India which is used for ACL reconstruction. This new technique is known as all inside ACL construction technique with fibre tape internal bracing. Here we will see how this technique is different from the conventional ACL reconstruction that is done by the screw:
Conventional technique | All inside fibre tape internal braces technique |
---|---|
Two hamstring tendons are used | Only one hamstring tendon is used |
Bigger hole is made in the bone | Pin size hole is made in the bone |
Fibre tape cannot be used in the conventional screw fixation | Fibre tape internal bracing is used |
Painful knee bending | Painless knee bending |
90% knee bending can be achieved one month after surgery | 90% bending knee bending can be achieved one day after surgery |
Walking is painful | There is painless walking without support just one week after surgery |
The patient is able to perform lunges after one month | The patient is able to perform lunges after one week |
The patient is able to jog after 3 months | The patient is able to jog after 1 month |
The patient can get back to sports only after 6 or 7 months | The patient can get back to sports in less than 3 months |
The results with this technique have proven to be a lot faster, painless, and far more effective than the conventional ones. The greatest case study is of an athlete who ran a marathon just 4.5 months after a ACL repair with the all inside fibre tape internal bracing technique.
